External Sales Representative - Automotive


Job description

We are currently recruiting an External Sales Representative for our Automotive Divisions. The successful candidate will visit garages, workshops and other similar businesses and will be responsible for increasing sales by identifying prospective customers, following up on potential sales leads and maintaining relationships with existing customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Promote and sell a wide range of Automotive products and services such as garage equipment, refinishing and detailing products and automotive paints.
  • Establish and maintain current client and potential client relationships.
  • Follow up on new leads and referrals resulting from field activity.
  • Regular reviews of company accounts with the progression of any outstanding accounts.
  • Security of all monies received by cash, card and cheque, giving due consideration of data protection.
  • Plan and prioritise sales activities based on customer/prospect requirements.
  • Developing and maintaining sales materials and current product knowledge.
  • Advise customers on products available and the product uses.
  • Participate in marketing events such as seminars and trade shows.
  • Monitor and report on market and competitor activities and provide relevant reports and information.
  • Identify and resolve client concerns.
  • Communicate new product and service opportunities, special developments, information, or feedback gathered through field activity to appropriate company staff.
  • Prepare paperwork while maintaining and developing a customer database.
  • Co-ordinate company staff to accomplish the work required to complete sales.
  • Ensuring labelling on products and chemicals is correct.
  • Manage products and services, ensuring pricing and margins are correct according to agreed terms.
  • Liaise with suppliers directly to resolve any customer queries.
  • Responsible for the upkeep of the assigned company vehicle.

Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrable direct sales experience will be key, and knowledge of the Automotive Industry would be a distinct advantage.
  • Will need to have excellent customer service skills when dealing with customers and colleagues.
  • The ability to work with minimal supervision and make decisions relevant to the successful outcome and conclusion of the processes will be essential.
  • Will be IT literate, numerate and have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have experience of managing sales targets and understanding growth strategies.
  • Must be able to travel extensively throughout assigned territory.
  • Must project a positive image of the company and its products and services.
  • Must be able to plan and prioritise own workload but also communicate with a team and provide reports and feedback as required.
  • Willing to travel to other MIS locations to attend meetings and meet with colleagues which may include overnight stays.
  • Full UK driving license, maximum of 6 points on license.
