Workshop Technician
Elgin
Job description
Forest & Groundcare Technician
Keeping our customers working — when their equipment matters most
At MacGregor Industrial Supplies, we don’t just repair equipment…
we keep businesses running, contractors working and customers moving.
From landscapers and estates to farms and golf courses — when their machinery stops, their day stops.
That’s why we’re looking for a hands-on, customer-driven Technician to join our busy Forest & Groundcare Service & Hire team.
If you enjoy fault-finding, fixing problems properly (not just quickly), and take pride in quality workmanship — this is a role where your work genuinely makes a difference.
What the role is really about
You’ll be responsible for servicing, repairing and preparing equipment to the highest standard — but more importantly, you’ll be helping customers get back to work safely and efficiently.
This role isn’t just workshop-based engineering.
It’s about ownership, reliability and doing the right thing for the customer every time.
What you’ll be doing
Fix it right first time
- Diagnose faults across a range of Forest & Groundcare equipment
- Carry out service, repair and testing work to a high standard
- Complete pre-delivery inspections so equipment leaves ready to perform
- Operate and set up machinery in line with manufacturer guidelines
Keep customers moving
- Work closely with the Parts team to ensure availability of components
- Prioritise urgent repairs and support emergency call-outs
- Maintain accurate job records and service documentation
- Prepare hire equipment to dependable working condition
- Take pride in the workshop
- Maintain tools, plant and workspace safely and professionally
- Carry out vehicle checks and report defects
- Ensure workshop standards reflect the quality we promise customers
What success looks like
- You’ll thrive here if you:
- Take responsibility and follow jobs through properly
- Care about quality — not shortcuts
- Understand customers rely on you to do their job
- Stay calm when priorities change
- Work well independently but support the wider team
What we’re looking for
Essential
- Mechanical engineering qualification (SVQ / City & Guilds / HNC or equivalent)
- Strong fault-finding ability
- Full driving licence
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Problem-solver with a practical mindset
Desirable
- Experience with 2-stroke & 4-stroke engines
- Groundcare or professional landscaping equipment
- Golf course equipment or quad bikes
- Mechanical & electrical diagnostics experience
Why join MacGregor Industrial Supplies?

Customer First – our repairs keep customers operating
Do the Right Thing – quality and safety always matter
Be the Best – continuous improvement in skills and standards
