Job Overview

This is an opportunity for someone with a keen interest in pursuing a career in finance. The position will commence as finance assistant with the potential to become trainee accountant. The position will be fully supported through the AAT training framework. 

Key Responsibilities

- Assisting with month end close process.

- Assisting with completing year end file for auditors.

- Updating the fixed asset register monthly with the additions and disposals and posting relevant journals.

- Calculate monthly depreciation and post the relevant journals.

- Assisting with hire purchase agreements and reconciling the balances monthly

- Posting routine monthly journals.

- Carrying out the monthly invoice finance bank reconciliation ensuring reconciling items are actioned appropriately.

- Overseeing daily posting of tills for 6 branches and liaising with branches regarding any queries relating to the tills.

- Ensuring tills are reconciled and balance to the system and the bank statement including card payments.

- Assisting the sales ledger team with cashing up Inverness tills.

- Preparation for review of monthly accruals and prepayments.

- Run final Trial Balances for production of monthly management accounts by Finance Director.

- Order/Cancel Fuel Cards for new/disposed of vehicles.

- Inform insurance company of new and disposed of vehicles.

- Assist Sales Ledger and Purchase Ledger teams when needed.

- Contribute to continuous improvement of procedures to improve efficiency of the function and the department through the development of relationships with own team members and other departments.

- To perform any other duties with the Finance department as may be required from time to time.

Skills and Experience

The following skills will be an advantage, however, on the job training will be provided:

· Sound organisational and administrative skills, including managing time effectively.

· The ability to deal confidently with people with clear and effective communication skills both verbally and written.

· Good numeracy skills.

· IT literacy and experience of Microsoft packages.

· Attention to detail.

· Proactive, enthusiastic, self-motivated.

· Ability to prioritise and multitask.

· Ability to work alone under own initiative and within a team.

· Responsible and reliable with a flexible attitude.

· Previous accounting experience.

· Ability to respond positively to new challenges and change.
