Job Overview
We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Trainee IT Technical Support person to join our team in Inverness. This entry-level role is ideal for school leavers or individuals looking for their first job in IT. No prior experience is required—just a keen interest in technology, problem-solving, and learning new skills.As part of our IT team, you will play a crucial role in maintaining IT systems, supporting users, and assisting with digital transformation projects. You will receive full training and hands-on experience to build a strong foundation in IT technical support.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Support & Troubleshooting
- Assist with the installation, configuration, and maintenance of computer hardware, software, and networks.
- Provide first-line technical support to staff, troubleshooting IT issues related to systems, printers, scanners, and other peripherals.
- Deploy and maintain Office 365 applications and assist with user setup and access control.
- Investigate, diagnose, and resolve software and hardware faults.
- Replace or repair faulty equipment as required.
Infrastructure & System Maintenance
- Support scheduled maintenance and system upgrades to ensure smooth IT operations.
- Assist with CCTV system installations and maintenance.
- Participate in infrastructure projects, including network setup and server maintenance.
- Monitor and manage IT system performance, escalating issues as necessary.
User Support & Training
- Communicate effectively with employees to understand and resolve IT-related queries.
- Provide basic training to staff on IT systems, software, and cybersecurity best practices.
- Assist with the documentation of IT processes and procedures for internal use.
Other Duties
- Travel occasionally to different company sites to provide IT support (overnight stays may be required).
- Maintain a professional and proactive approach to IT support, ensuring minimal disruption to business operations.
- Stay up to date with emerging IT trends and developments relevant to the role.
Skills & Experience
Essential Requirements
- Passion for IT and willingness to learn new technologies.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Good organisational and teamwork abilities.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.
- Basic understanding of Microsoft Office 365 and computer systems.
- Minimum education: 2 Highers at Grade C or above.
- Positive attitude towards new challenges and change.
Desirable Skills (Not Essential but Beneficial)
- Basic knowledge of business IT systems or networking.
- Experience with troubleshooting IT issues (even informally at home or school).
- Familiarity with cybersecurity principles and safe IT practices.
- Full UK driving licence (or willingness to obtain one in the near future).
